In one of the closet elections in decades, Phoenix Adam’s Matt Genn stood as the Green Party candidate in Chesterfield.
The results weren’t declared until 4:50 am in the morning after a very long process of verification and counting. In the highly contested seat, the Greens came overall 5th with 1352 votes or 3% of the vote.
This was double the number of votes that the Greens received at the last election in 2010, and reflected the “Green surge” in of interest in the party, in terms of votes and membership.  Full details of the election results for Chesterfield can be seen below.
Nationally, the Greens gained over 1 million votes and managed to keep its only MP, Caroline Lucas, in Parliament with an increased an increased majority.
